Meet Lucy 2, the first foster dog to be GRRACEd in 2024! (We refer to her as Lucy 2 because we have another Lucy in foster care.) Lucy 2 is a 4-year-old spayed female who was very loved by her owners. Her Dad passed away suddenly, leaving her mom with two large adult dogs to care for. Her Mom has health issues herself and can’t care for both dogs. Lucy has severe skin issues, and due to the cost of caring for Lucy’s skin issues, her mom made the heartbreaking decision to surrender Lucy to their vet clinic. The vet clinic contacted GRRACE, and voila Lucy was GRRACEd on January 5, 2024!
Lucy 2 was well taken care of by her family—she is current on all vaccines, spayed, well behaved and loving. While she wasn’t kept on regular heartworm prevention, thankfully she tested negative for heartworm. Lucy’s severe skin issues are challenging but she does well when kept on the prescription Royal Canin Hydrolized HP Diet and quarterly Cytopoint injections. A 17.5lb bag of the prescription food runs about $104 and is enough to usually last one month. One Cytopoint injection for Lucy is about $131 and she needs about four injections per year.
